At CyMap, a Lens free microscope launched by UK Cancer Research Scientists. It has won the first prize of the Medical and Health category is “ The Engineer’s Technology and Innovation Awards” on Friday Dec 4th. This cell imaging system is very compact, used to quantify the medical samples in research laboratories.
The CyMap technology employs light to illuminate cells which provide light diffractions that can also be completely recorded by a single optical detector. It enables to researchers to find the number of cells in a sample.
According to their research consultant, “CyMap can transform existing systems by enabling imaging capability where it was past too expensive, and open the door to the creation of amazing new stand alone devices”.
The technology of CyMap lens-free microscope is robust, cheap and simple. It’s having become more sophisticated in helping doctors and scientists to understand cell changes. CyMap was developed in the research to monitoring the cell movements like cancer cells and also be used in diagnostic settings. It is currently available to be licensed through Cancer Research Technology (CRT) – Cancer Research UK’s commercialization and development arm.
